Ran some errands today across the county and had a FOY Eastern Tiger Swallowtail. Also had three FOY Broad-winged Hawks and got to witness a marvelous dive attack by a FOY Osprey. My wife and I were watching the Osprey circling over Boiling Pond when he suddenly dropped down in ever tighter circles and plunged into the pond. In a few moments he came flapping up out of the water holding a large orange carp that was almost half his size. It was interesting to watch him struggle to get airborne with his super-sized meal. No doubt he found a quick resting spot and got to the business of eating his hard-earned catch. When he disappeared behind some trees, he still hadn't managed to get more than four feet above the water! Leftovers, anyone?
