Gibson, Dyer, and Obion Counties in NW TN

Was out and about today in several locations:

At Gibson County Lake in Gibson County (east of Trenton) the birds reported
yesterday were still present in approximately the same numbers. In addition to
those there was a flock of 100+ Ring-necked Ducks now present. Gadwall numbers
had also increased since yesterday to approximately 50 birds today. There was
also an adult Bald Eagle sitting out on the ice near the middle of the lake.
The lake was approximately 1/4 frozen. There were many gulls sitting on the ice
as well. The Canvasbacks had moved down to the south end of the lake away from
the Common Goldeneye, Ring-necked Ducks, and Lesser Scaup.

Next I visited the pools on the Dyer Co./Obion Co. line (near the town of
Trimble) where the Trumpeter Swans were seen last week. The pool on the east
side of the highway was completely iced over and frozen so no birds at all
there. The pool on the west side was approximately 1/3 frozen and the only
birds were a small group of Mallards and N. Pintails sitting out on the ice.
There were a few Ring-billed Gulls in an adjacent field but there was no sign
of the Trumpeter Swans.

In Obion County on Will Dickerson Road (east of Rives) I had a large flock of
Horned Larks with a few Lapland Longspurs mixed in.

Good birding,
