TN birders, Spent about 45 minutes at the condo pull off yesterday. Was there from a little after noon to about 12:50, when I left. Quickly had the male Red-breasted merganser, then the female common merganser. Neither western nor red-necked grebe was seen. As the time went on, more common loons were gathering at the mouth of the bay. Had one loon that needs more study. It was smaller than a common, and it's neck had a slimmer look. The neck was more erect than a common. This more erectness caused the loon to appear higher in the water. It's bill was too large for a red-throated. I saw no chin strap. Left frustrated, as I felt I could not make a definite call on the bird, but feel it was not a common nor a red-throated. Would appreciate posts from anyone who has a chance to study this bird more, as I had to leave. David Chaffin Cleveland Bradley Co
