Trying to shake the Sharp?s Ridge closing blues, we made a trip
last evening to Songbird trail below Norris dam along the Clinch
River. Hoping to find Hooded warblers, we bagged 2 males, one
politely perched on a leafless branch singing to beat the band.
We also heard and saw a Yellow-throated warbler. A Northern
parula was heard, but too far off to make visual contact. Some
Yellow rumps were seen as well.

Blue-gray gnatcatchers were abundant, feasting on hordes of
gnats (or some reasonable facsimile). The swarms were so thick,
that you had to breath lightly when passing through them to
avoid sucking them up your snout.

There were some strong smelling, tall green bushes with creamy
colored blooms that the bumblebees were attacking with a
vengeance.

Other sightings: 2 White-eyed vireos; Chipping,
White-throated, Field, and Song sparrows; Great blue heron;
Belted kingfisher; Eastern bluebirds; Carolina wrens; Red
bellied, downy woodpeckers; Eastern towhees; Am goldfinches; T.
titmice; Carolina chickadees; Canada geese; and tons of
Cardinals.
