7:30 a.m. - 7:50 a.m. Friday, April 16, 2010 North Boundary Trail Roane County On the way to work this morning I checked out one of my favorite local birding spots on the North Boundary Trail a couple of miles west of Oak Ridge on the right side (north) of Hwy 58 South before it gets to Hwy 95. In just a short walk to the second bridge I had five warbler species with most of the action at the first bridge and the power line cut. Getting out of the car I heard a Common Yellowthroat across the highway. A pair of Blue-gray Gnatcatchers are building a nest in a dead or not yet leafed-out tree above the first bridge. A Northern Parula and Yellow-throated Warbler were signing above the creek. At the power line cut there were two Blue-winged Warblers and a Prairie Warbler singing. Hard working beavers have built a fine dam just upstream of the second bridge. It is worth the short walk in to just admire nature's engineers at work. Just a few minutes with these birds in a nice environment made the start of the work day much more positive.
