As usual, this Thursday morning on my way to work, I stopped at
the Walter S. Davis Blvd Marsh on the back side of the TSU campus.
In past years it has occasionally had a visiting YELLOW-CROWNED
HERON, but I've not seen one at the marsh this year. I keep
hoping to find a rail or bittern summering but that has not
happened yet. The water level continues to drop in the lake area.
After seeing the continuing pair of BLUE-WINGED TEAL from the
end of the parking pull-in, I walked along the road to get
a better view into the open water area that is surrounded
by reeds and spotted in the open but next to the reeds a dark
gray bird with bright red forehead and bill, a COMMON GALLINULE.
It was visible for perhaps 30 seconds before slipping away into
the reeds. I also though I heard one giving a series of yelp
calls.
