Black vultures do not use hawk nests, at least not that I have ever seen personally or have read about. They lay their eggs straight on the ground, usually in a cave, rock outcropping, or hollow tree. It is probably just coincidental that the vultures are perched on/near the nest tree. David Aborn Chattanooga, TN ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I see a big bulky nest of sticks and twigs in the valley below my house 2 - 2 ½ feet wide or so, up in the crotch of a tall tree. I have seen nothing sitting in it, but I see black vultures near it many times throughout the day, often sitting in trees near it. I know that vultures don't build nests, but wonder if they ever borrow old hawk nests?
