July 20th was Tremont's seventh banding day of the season (MAPS Period 9). The weather was sunny throughout the day. Unfortunately, the bird captures are starting to tapir off for the year. In fact, visitors outnumbered birds by at least 3 to 1! We only got three birds in the nets today: 1 Carolina Wren 1 Louisiana Waterthrush 1 Red-eyed Vireo Tremont's Field Ecology Camp assisted with banding throughout the day. The station was also visited by a reporter and cinematographer from WBIR-TV, who interviewed Charlie and I and filmed us extracting birds from the net and processing them. Our species total is now 59 birds. Our Louisiana Waterthrush total is 32, just short of the record season of 34. Carolina Wren is our second most common species with 6 captures this season. The waterthrush, like most this year, was a hatch-year bird. Tremont's final banding day of the season is on August 9th. Nets open at 6:40 am.
