I tried sending this last night but another Comcast outage ended email for the night. ... We still have a pair each of Scarlet and Summer Tanagers in the woods behind our house in west Knox County. I had a Summer Tanager for 3 days in June 2003. Other than that, this is the latest for either species here by 10 days. Hopefully they really are going to nest. I hear them daily and have been able to see them most days. Other nesters this year include Blue-gray Gnatcatcher (done and gone), Red-eyed Vireo, House Wren, Wood Thrush, Eastern Phoebe, and Great Crested Flycatcher along with the usual chickadees, titmice, nuthatches, Downy and Red-bellied WPs, mockingbirds, robins, Blue Jays, starlings, Song and Field Sparrow, House Finches, Mourning Doves, Chimney Swifts, hummingbirds, etc. I think the Red-tailed Hawks nested on the other side of Middlebrook Pike this year. I've only heard the Barred Owls about once per week on average.
