TN You just can't predict what you think has happened or what is going to happen at these two lakes. Last week, we made numerous trips to TVA and Robco with Paul Lehman looking for birds to tick off the Big Ticker's list but could not find diddly at these lakes. Yesterday, NADA! But today, after an hour's wait, in dropped a molting, winter plumaged, male LONG-TAILED DUCK, my first adult male in years. Shortly another big flight of scaup splashed down, in that group was an immature SURF SCOTER and within 3 feet bobbed a female BLACK SCOTER......duh!! It started to rain after a long wait for a White-winged to show ( can't blame me for wishing) but no deal, so I went to Robco Lake. Here, I started the long scans among the huge number of ducks and soon, bam - a female LONG-TAILED DUCK!! The 4th Long-tail I've found for the season here in Shelby Co, three distinctly different females and this male. I gave up in the rain and headed south to Tunica County. The dump is closed on Sunday but a few gulls still hang around the site; except for a few Herring Gulls all the others were Ring-billed. The rain became steady and I headed up to Arkabutla Dam. Here, I located 4 Laughers and then a FRANKLIN'S GULL at the spillway, one of only a few winter records I've had for the TN/MS area !
