For those of you at the TOS meeting this weekend (and those that did not = attend), here are links to the Institute for Bird Populations and the MoSI = banding stations we discussed on Saturday. Information on the web sites = should answer many of your questions. If you still have questions, please = contact me off the listserv. Remember, by adopting a MoSI banding station, we will be greatly increasing= our knowledge of the winter habitat use and survival of "our" birds = wintering in Mexico, Central America, and the Carribean. We know very = little about what our birds do during the winter and even less about what = local resident species need. The winter grounds need study and protection = as winter ranges are significantly smaller then breeding ranges and = habitat loss and lack of information on the winter grounds very well may = be the limiting factor in the survival of our birds and many resident = species. These banding stations not only help answer critical questions = about overwinter survival and habitat use, but those that run these = stations actively engage school groups and the public about birds and = conservation. A little on our end goes a very long way to protecting = birds and their habitats. http://www.birdpop.org/ http://www.birdpop.org/MoSI/MoSI.htm=20 Cheers, Scott Somershoe State Ornithologist Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency P.O.
