Again after it rained last night, I didn't need much excuse to drop by the
pits this afternoon. The large flock of scaup at TVA Lake has been augmented by
a big influx of Greater Scaup. I counted over 100 in the mix which contained
only one Red-breasted Merganser and a female Ring-necked Duck.

I also found one sleeping Black Scoter and then another sleeping Surf Scoter.
Both of these birds were fast asleep and I took a series of photos that show
the slight differences that are usually visible even on birds with their heads
tucked. I'll try to post them soon.

At the "pits" there are still over 1,000 Least Sandpipers and at least 3
Western. I also had 4 Dunlin and 11 SANDERLING.

The injured Snowy is still hanging in there. With the CBC count coming next
week someone might have some nice birds, Snowy, Sanderling and 2 species of
scoters ain't too shabby in the winter at Memphis..............

Good Birding!!!
