July 22, 2006 President's Island and Frayser Memphis, Shelby Co. TN On President's Island, the female Scissor-tailed Flycatcher sits tight on her second nesting but the big surprise was finding and photographing what appeared to be another Morning/Eurasian Collared-Dove hybrid. The bird was the size and color of a Morning Dove but was marked like a Collared-Dove!! This is the third such hybrid dove I've found on President's Island. The grain storage facilities strewn all around this huge area, makes it a hot bed of dove activity with thousands present at any given time. In northwest Memphis, the female Scissor-tailed Flycatcher and the Western Kingbird pair are feeding at least 2 young. I spent a lot of time watching them and got a few photos of both at the nest, feeding the young and carrying off fecal sacks. You just never know, so much for sex in the city............. Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
