Young American Crows can sometimes sound similar, but I think it would be quite early for that. >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Just a word of caution on crow calls in spring......... In the spring the begging calls of adult American Crows can be very difficult to differentiate from short Fish Crow calls. These calls are usually given at the nest by American Crows but I've heard them given by individuals in flight and perched away from nest. These calls by AM Crows are only slightly longer in duration and drop slightly at the end thus not quite as abrupt as a Fish Crow. American Crows do not give the typical 2 note Fish Crow call. So early spring dates do not eliminate American Crow from Fish Crow by the short call but Fish Crows can give a call that is almost identical to the Am. Crow's normal 'caw" at anytime or season. If the bird is perched when calling, then actions, posture and body confirmation will tell the tale. Good Birding !!! Jeff R.
