After several tries, I finally saw a sora in the Bell’s Bend area. Go eastward
on Old Hickory Blvd. about 2 miles past Bell’s Bend Park to a large sod field
on the right side. Across the road from the sod field (left side) is a horse
pasture containing a swampy area just beside the road and you can pull to the
side of the road and park your car. If you walk eastward on the road you will
see a large clearing on the western end of the swampy area just before reaching
a thick patch of reeds. Unfortunately, the sora was not located in that open
area. Walk about 15 meters past the western end of that thick patch of reeds to
a small gap in the bushes of the fence line. From there you can barely see a
small, relatively dry clearing at the eastern end of the thick patch of reeds.
A sora popped out twice between 5 and 5:30 pm for about 1 and 3 min,
respectively, to forage just outside the reeds, which should allow nice photos.
