TN-birders,
Dollyann and I went out to Cocke County this morning and found the adult
Trumpeter Swan that was reported earlier. It was easily seen at the highway 321
bridge that crosses the French Broad River, a few miles out of Newport, and
where highway 160 intersects 321.
We found a couple more flocks of Rusty Blackbirds that were MOSTLY Rusties as
well. After not seeing any Rusty Blackbirds for 9 months, we have encountered
about 5 flocks recently containing about 700+ birds in total.
We also stopped by the Concord boat ramp in Knox Co. (across from the dog
walking area close to Concord marina) to see if we could find any of the
recently reported scoters. Nada on the scoters, but Hawk-eye Dollyann found an
adult winter female Long-tailed Duck out in the bay. Scope needed.
Great birding to all,
Ron Hoff & Dollyann Myers
