Soddy Mountain Hawk Watch Hamilton Co. TN. near Chattanooga Just a quick reminder to let everyone know Soddy Mountain is open for business. This is our eleventh year! Actually we began last Sunday. It was very early in the season and only a few hawks have been spotted during the sporadic counting this past week. Next week should be much better. Directions: From Chattanooga take Hwy. 27N until you cross the causeway over Soddy Lake; when road splits, take Hwy. 111N towards Dunlap; when you reach the top of the mountain, turn left on Jones Gap Rd., continue on Jones Gap for a little over 2 miles until it deadends; (Do not turn right on Burchard Rd.); climb the bank and you are there! Any day from now until the end of the month should be good days for Broad-winged Hawk migration. The best days, generally, are those just after a cold front has passed through. Monday, Tues. or Wed. (15,16,17) are looking promising if the weather forecast remains as it is now!
