Soddy Mtn. Hawk Watch Hamilton Co., TN This past week was somewhat slow for migrants. I believe that migration may be about a week slower than the previous ten years. Today, Sunday was a good day for BROADWINGED-HAWK migrants mostly due to the cold front that passed through yesterday. Several good cloud formations were also helpful. Weeks Totals: Monday 9/10 Nothing seen. Tuesday 9/11 Rained out Wednesday 9/12 6 Broad-winged Hawks Thursday 9/13 11 Broad-winged Hawks; 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk; 1 Cooper's Hawk; 1 Bald Eagle (immature). Friday 9/14 Rained out Saturday 31 Broad-winged Hawks Sunday 104 Broad-winged Hawks Y-T-D: 152 Broad-winged Hawks 1 Sharp-shinned Hawk 1 Cooper's Hawk 1 Bald Eagle (imma.) Come on up this coming week. I will try and be at the lookout from 10:30 until 5:00 Monday 9-17 thru Sunday 9-23. Generally, this is the peak week for hawk watching in the Chattanooga area. If it's raining, the hawks won't fly! Send me a message off line if you haven't seen the previously posted directions.
