The AOS (recently "lumped" AOU and COS) checklist supplement was released
today. Several possible species-level changes that could have affected
TN were voted down, with only one accepted.
The Iceland/Kumlein's/Thayer's Gull group are now all lumped into Iceland
Gull (TN loses a species here).
Northern Shrike and Northern Harrier are split from Old World forms (Great
Gray Shrike and Hen Harrier).
The floodgates may have cracked opened just a little on Red Crossbills
(and tourism is about to spike in Cassia County, Idaho) as Cassia
Crossbill is split from Red Crossbill (Ruben and Victor may have another
stop on their Big Year)
Several changes in linear sequences as well as some genus reorginization
were accepted.
Notable proposals which did NOT pass include splits of Willet,
Yellow-rumped Warbler, Nashville Warbler, Bell's Vireo, Brown Creeper, and
lumping of Common and Hoary Redpoll.
Oh, and Le Conte's Sparrow is now LeConte's Sparrow.
