Bill, This is the closest that a snowy owl has been to North Carolina; so, I’m very interested. Unfortunately, I can’t rush down there Wednesday morning. Please keep us posted. Let’s see if this bird is going to stay there for the winter or move one. As for GABO-L, how does a person join? There is a Snowy Owl on Sea Island. It was apparently first seen 3 days ago by SI staff, but was positively identified today. It appears to either be a young male or adult female - as it shows moderate black patterning. It was perched on a rooftop of the private condominiums just north of the south Jetty. Kristen Morris, the Sea Island naturalist has generously offered to take birders to see the owl (presuming it stays around). She is planning an 8AM trip tomorrow (Wednesday). Since there is limited space, please call her if you want to go. Her number is (912) 506-1641. She is also available in the afternoon to take more people out.
