Old Hickory Lake
Snow Bunting Peninsula
Davidson Co., TN
2018 Sep. 25
6:20-8:20am
Even though there was little rain this morning, I went to Snow
Bunting Peninsula near the dam at Old Hickory Lake to see if
there might be any lingering unusual gulls, terns, or shorebirds
as have been found there the past couple days. After waiting
over an hour I had little to show for my efforts other than
2 CASPIAN TERNs that wandered by. I did eventually spot 4
very distant sterna terns but they were too far off to identify.
As I began to think about leaving I suddenly saw a large dark
bird dive rapidly toward the water. The size and wing shape
quickly identified it as a PEREGRINE FALCON. I watched the bird go
into a stoop a couple times before it flew south with a blackbird
chasing it.
