Victor and I had a Smith’s Longspur in the large mowed blonde grass
fields across the road from the Gardner Road Gardens this morning in Shelby
County. It was flushed up by a running deer and flying with a Horned Lark
when we saw it. It appeared to drop back into the same grass and we didn’t
try to get it up again since we figured our photos would be diagnostic
(correctly) I would think the chances of refinding this bird should be good.
