Ensley Bottoms, Maxson Wastewater Lagoons(The Pits)/Earth Complex, Shelby, US-TN
Apr 29, 2014 11:45 AM - 1:05 PM
Protocol: Traveling
2.5 mile(s)
Comments: Slightly overcast with patches of sun high 60's with a breeze.
Lunch time run down to the Pits.
All levees are drivable, as long as we get no more wet weather Sundays visit
should be good to all points.

The Blk-bellied Wh. Ducks were scattered on the levees trying to stay out of
the wind, 9 seperate pairs found all around, the rest in groups of 3-7 spread
out.
Shorebird population is growing but not dramatically. Blk-necked Stilts up to
29, 33 Wilsons Phalaropes seen, biggest group (29) was with a large mixed
flock(including a Dowitcher) in the reedy west end of the central pits where
all the Blue-winged Teal are hanging out, less water here shallows and mudflats
are more abundant. 4 were found back on the north end of the relandscaped pit
#5, feeding along with 3 Stilt Sandpipers and a good quantity of Lesser
Yellowlegs along with another Dowitcher.
Lots of water being drained into most of the lagoons very little mudflat areas.
Back down in the south side grasslands Dickcissels, Blue Grosbeaks and Indigo
Buntings have shown up. 10 Barn swallows along with a bunch of other lighter
colored swallows flying around.
