Since weds the 5th we have had a great number of Hummers present at our 7
feeders (had 8 until a raccoon broke one up, now taking them in at night).
Weds we came back from vacation and were having 15-30 birds on and around the
feeders, by friday the numbers had jumped to around 75-90 birds.
These last five days have been crazy, 125-150 birds from the sunup frenzy to
the sundown dash for the last sip.
It's fun just watching these little jewels scramble for a perch. Five of the
seven feeders are constantly emptied by the time I get home at 4pm, then they
go through some more before sundown 3hrs or so later.
Getting 8-10 birds at each of my 6 port feeders at times, some sharing a port.
Very few bullies among the group.

It will be interesting to see how long this years fall migration will last
with this heavy of a concentration.

The Hummingbird Festival this past weekend (7th-9th) in Holly Springs, MS
(Strawberry Plains Audubon) just 25 min south of my home, had a record year,
banding 549 birds over three days as reported in the festival report. Great job
Bob Sargent, Fred Basset and the rest of the gang from the Hummer/Bird Study
Group did during these three days.
