Location: Shelby Farms Shooting Rng and East to Gtown Rd (South of Walnut Grove) Observation date: 3/27/11, 4-5 pm Notes: With all the lousy weather this weekend I had to get out of the house before I went crazy. Started the birding off at the pull out parking lot for the Wetland Demonstration Project at Shelby Farms. The fields are still flooded and there were alot of ducks visible from the main road. Shovelers, Gadwall and Bl Winged Teal made up the majority of the numbers. Off to the north side of the flooded area were a large group of shorebirds along the edges of the water in the stuble fields. Snipe were spread out and well camo'd but could be seen as they were feeding and moving about. The large group of Pectoral Sand Pipers are the most at one time i've seen in a while. Least Sandpipers were more in the stuble near and around the Snipe. there may have been more but could not see into the stuble real well. Weather was overcast and cold 45degs, rain coming in.
