Sightings Report 22 April 07 Ensley Bottoms, Memphis Shelby County Location: TN 2 Mem, TE Maxwell Lagoons Observation date: 4/22/07, 350-630pm Notes: Visited the Pits late this afternoon. Wind out of the south, 80 degs+. Ran into the Riley's and Jeff Wilson. Birds of the day for me here were the three Semi Plover's and the one Bairds Sandpiper. I missed the others that have been seen recently and earlier today. Upwards a thousand birds throughout the complex today, my numbers may be low but L.Yellowlegs dominated the lagoons. Least sandpipers seen in better numbers than this past week. Solitary's a constant near the levee's giving a good look. Some of the goose eggs have hatched and some have been abandoned. Black-necked Stilts beginning to build up mounds for thier nests on both ponds 4 & 5. Lots of Teal still in the back corner of #5. Number of species: 18 Canada Goose 25 Mallard 9 Blue-winged Teal 151 Northern Shoveler 23 Great Blue Heron 2 Red-tailed Hawk 1 Semipalmated Plover 3 Killdeer 37 Black-necked Stilt 10 Greater Yellowlegs 7 Lesser Yellowlegs 400 Solitary Sandpiper 17 Least Sandpiper 100 Baird's Sandpiper 1 Pectoral Sandpiper 200 Mourning Dove 9 Savannah Sparrow 15 Red-winged Blackbird 30 Location: TN 2 Mem,TVA PONDS Observation date: 4/22/07, 630-655pm Notes: Bird of the day at this site was the Caspian Tern sitting on the far bank with the cormorants and a GB Heron in the background. The BN Stilts flew in from the NW and landed near the rest of the birds and then scattered against the wind in pairs headed towards the Pits.
