October 19
Kingston Steam Plant--ash ponds
Roane County, TN

Three female NORTHERN SHOVELERS were mixed in with about 40 Gadwalls, 50
coots, and 60 Canada Geese on the nearest large ash pond at KSP today.
Also dozens of PALM WARBLERS roamed the vegetation around the pond.
Besides countless Song Sparrows, there were at least 3 SAVANNAH SPARROWS
and 2 SWAMP SPARROWS.
As Sophie (my Cocker Spaniel) and I were leaving across a grassy
slope, I asked Sophie if she thought the fescue was too thick here to
support quail. Just then about 15 BOBWHITE QUAIL gave us the answer as
they blasted forth from the grass in front of us.
