Today I photographed some waterfowl that are life birds to me. They were in
a field behind the Hermitage Memorial Gardens ina small (30' diameter)
ankle-deep rainwater pond. There were maybr 10 or fifteen of them and when I
got too
close they would fly crying, "Peep, Peep". They were very killdeer like in
appearance bur were definitely NOT killdeer. Many had a dark band around their
throats with white breast and belly and dark gray back. They had a possible
dark band on the wing. Some bobbed their head as they walked. My best natch
in Sibley was a Semi-palmated plover, but the pictures I took are not very
clear. The best picture I have is on my website:
http://www.freewebs.com/thornsbirds on Page IV Paragraph III (unidentified
shorebirds (Plover?)). Any help
in identification would be appreciated.
Thanks
