Aug. 7, 2011 Ensley Bottoms Robco and Mud Lake Shelby Co. TN The rain on Friday put down good numbers of birds at the "Pits" but nothing unusual in the 2,800 plus birds still present Saturday, except ONE First of Season, my first immature Wind Bird, a surprising Semipalmated in a sharp suit. I searched and searched for a young Least but the Semi takes the prize. The Black-necked Stilt numbers are still mind numbing along with the noise they are making!! The Whistler Trio is doing fine and out growing their spots and stripes. The other group is now down to 13 young from the record 18. The 2 male Blue-winged Teal males are in full eclipse plumage along with the mottled crew of male Mallards. At TVA Lake, 4 fledged Least Terns along with 4 fuzz balls. Along Horn Lake Cut-Off, lots of Wood Ducks and 3 Hooded Merganser young plus the summering Coot. At Robco a sudden increase in Ruddy Ducks, now 9 males?? Nothing special at Mud Lake but viewing very difficult because of high water so you can not get outside the tree line. A few Wood Ducks, Mallards and Hooded, Least Terns, 2 Black and 3 Forster's Terns. Good Birding!!! Jeff R. Wilson / TLBA 6300 Memphis-Arlington Rd.
