east Tennessee; Knox County; Knoxville ******************************************** Here's a field trip announcement from the Knoxville Chapter of the Tennessee Ornithological Society: It's time for the warblers to be on the Ridge. Anyone who would like to join a group of like-minded birders each Thursday morning, starting this Thursday the 13th of April at 8:00 am are welcome. We will walk along the paved road starting at the rangers house. All nature lovers are welcome to join in. If you are a beginning birder there will be lots of folks present to help identify the birds by sight and song. Please come and enjoy the spring migration with us. I will be there each Thursday morning, the 13th, 20th, 27th, and the 4th of May, starting at 8:00 am sharp. Leader: Tony Headrick Any info regarding directions to Sharp's Ridge in Knoxville, Tn.,call me at 865-621-9836; or see the TOS website at www.tnbirds.org ******************************************* In preparation for this trip, I went up on the ridge this morning to get an idea of how migration is going here in Knoxville. It was slow early, but eventually a couple of flocks of mixed migrants came by, offering excellent looks (since trees are not too heavily leafed out yet). A group of students from the University of Tennessee was also up there, and I included what I heard they saw. In addition to the regular Thursday morning KTOS trips, anyone is encouraged to go on up to Sharps Ridge Memorial Park and morning of the week, as there are almost always a few birders up there.
