Fall 'Season Report' To Begin for THE MIGRANT Throughout the year, editorial staff of the Tennessee journal of ornithology search messages posted to TN-Birds Net to gleam important field data regarding Tennessee birds. It is eventually published in the pages of THE MIGRANT, published by the Tennessee Ornithological Society. For these reasons you are asked to be as specific as possible about species reported as well as locations, including communities and counties, for which you are posting to TN-Birds. Much of this information is used by scientists and wildlife managers. These summaries help understand bird distribution and occurrences. Your post may have important data that will eventually help support funding for research and management by wildlife agencies. Eventually, this data may help authors of popular field guides edit distribution maps. On Aug 1 of each year we enter the fall season. Records for the fall season are collected from Aug 1 thru Nov 30. The map at the top of this post shows the breakdowns used by the individual season editors and the regions they monitor. Their summaries for the period are published by the regions detailed in the map. In a more technical sense, we are currently still in the summer season thru July 31. Those of you who watch the early shorebird and early migrants moving now in some reports, realize the fall migration has begun and the activity is picking up considerably. But there is a difference between the fall season reported in THE MIGRANT and the actual movements of early fall migrants you are watching.
