We took advantage of the nice weather this afternoon to check for the scoters at Norris Dam State Park (Anderson Co.). We were rewarded with close, lengthy views of 1 Surf Scoter and 1 White-winged Scoter from the deck/pier right above Weir Dam. Both birds were observed preening, diving, and feeding between 15:15 - 15:45. White secondaries were seen repeatedly on the White-winged Scoter in good light. Both scoters were life birds for us. We then walked the Songbird Trail for about half an hour and observed the listed woodland species. Blue Jays appeared to be migrating. Full report appears below. (Yes, I put it in eBird, and it appears that I was the first to input the scoters there! :)) Good birding, Angela Hoffman & Seth McConchie Angela M.
