June 11, 2003 Hurd Loop Road Lake Co. TN I followed storms all the way north from Memphis. In Covington, trees were down in two areas as I passed through. When I arrived at the nest tree on 103 Highway in Dyer Co, one look told me my assessment of the location on Sunday was correct. She had made another poor choice for a nest site. The wind had pulled on the limb that was turned under the nest and the nest was pushed over to one side of the fork. After checking other nests and birds, I came back by the tree and saw Ken Leggett and Nancy Moore standing underneath. I told them the nest would not make the afternoon and sure enough on my next trip, I found the nest laying in the road. The good part was, she had not started laying. I'm sure she has eggs ready to be laid in the next day or so and will be building a new nest in a hurry. I hope she does not move far and we can relocate the new site. I took close photos of the nest which was much neater than most Scissor-tailed nests I've seen. Interwoven in the rootlets and twigs were tuffs of cotton that had been gleaned out of the field across the road. There were cotton seeds in these many tuffs and with a little wet weather she might have been able to get a cotton allotment had they sprouted. Good Birding!!! Jeff R.
