Dave Vogt and I separately (he from across the lake) observed an adult SOOTY TERN above Nickajack Dam (Marion County) around 1:00 PM EDT today (9/17). I observed the bird from the observation parking lot above the dam on the New Hope Church side (south side). (D-1, page 24 DeLorme Atlas) The bird was mostly working along the hwy 156 causeway, but would then fly across the lake and back. Also present were 45 - 50 looked like mostly Forster's Terns, 1 Black Tern, and a Caspian Tern. I think I got glimpse of an immature Laughing Gull, but it was to far away to call.
