Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge
east Knox County, TN
Friday 28 July 2006

Hi folks

Today was a nice day at Seven Islands Wildlife Refuge. We caught a
pretty typical number of birds of a relatively low number of species.
It was pretty steady all day, which is nice compared to days where
we get a huge rush, followed by somewhat boring lulls.

The day was a constant competition for the top species of the day,
with Indigo Bunting finally winning, but not able to match their
period 9 record of over thirty this time last year.

With today?s total of 76 birds, we have now handled 505 on the season
(in 7 days) and EXACTLY 1000 in 2 seasons. Sadly, I didn?t realize
until after I got home that the last bird we got (fittingly, an
Indigo Bunting) was the 1000th customer. I had forgotten to add in a
Ruby-throated Hummingbird that Mark had banded, since I don?t keep
his data.

We caught the following birds: (first number is banded; 2nd number
is recaptured and 3rd number was unbanded.)

Indigo Bunting: 19, 1, 1
Field Sparrow: 17, 1, 0
Song Sparrow: 11, 5, 1
Northern Cardinal: 5, 0, 0
Common Yellowthroat: 3, 2, 0
Brown Thrasher: 2, 0, 0
Eastern Towhee: 1, 1
Northern Mockingbird: 1, 0, 0
American Robin: 1, 0, 0
Barn Swallow: 1, 0, 0
Downy Woodpecker: 1, 0, 0
Carolina Wren: 1, 0, 0
Ruby-throated Hummingbird: 1, 0, 0

Good day!

Charlie
