SC birders, Thanks to the posts of Paul Serridge and further help in response to my email request, I had my best quality birding day in a decade or two for SC. Got to the buff-bellied hummer spot at 8:23 am today, and in 10 minutes, the bird make o the feeder. From there, proceeded to Huntington Beach SP, and walked to the base of the jetty. Got info on the razorbills that had just been sighted by three birders whose names I do not recall. At the end of the Garden Beach jetty, there were 7 razorbills, and 4 were seen from the end of the HBSP jetty at about the 2:00 position. Other highlights included 3 red-throated loons, male and 3 female common mergansers, 16 black scoters(3 groups-10 of mixed m and f, 5 males that were flybys, and a single male flyby), 1 w-w scoter flyby, and red-necked grebe in the surf on the way back to the end of the boardwalk. The red-necked grebe was thanks to the recent info related to me at the base of the jetty as I was leaving by Magill Weber, a visiting birder from Phoenix. In addition to sharing info regarding the red-necked grebe she had just seen, and was glad to get the info on what I had just seen from the end of the jetty, she was kind enough to email the link to the web site listing the current best sites in the Phoenix area to see the recently added species to the ABA checklist, pink-faced lovebird. I was not able to find the lesser black-backed gull that Paul had reported earlier. I got four new state birds for the day-bbhu, rozo, wwsc, and rngr. It was one of those days that you were proud to be a birder. The helpful attitude of Paul, Magill, and the three birders whose named I do not recall(sorry guys) makes one proud of the birding fraternity. May their tribe increase! David Chaffin Cleveland TN Bradley Co Paul, if you would be so kind to forward this to the SC listserv, as I am not a member. Thanks.
