A wet Willie came to the feeder at 6:43 a.m. this morning. It is very windy and pouring rain and we were a bit surprised that he is staying longer to eat. He probably went to bed hungry last night because of the young Sharp-shinned Hawk that continues to terrorize our yard birds. We had a birder come by to get pictures yesterday afternoon and because of the hawk, all the birds, including Willie, were hiding for over an hour. And even after the hawk caught one, all the birds were afraid to come out before dark. Willie did get some sugar water just before night, but it obviously wasn't enough as he is sitting and drinking long gulps this morning even though it is still dark and he normally is too cautious to sit this early. We had 3 Pine Siskins at the thistle feeder yesterday morning and were glad to see them as they have been very spasmodic this year. Maybe the cooler weather coming tomorrow will make them appear more regularly. =================NOTES TO SUBSCRIBER===================== The TN-Bird Net requires you to sign your messages with first and last name, city (town) and state abbreviation. ----------------------------------------------------- ---------------------------------------------------- To post to this mailing list, simply send email to: tn-bird@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx ----------------------------------------------------- To unsubscribe, send email to: tn-bird-request@xxxxxxxxxxxxx with 'unsubscribe' in the Subject field. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * TN-Bird Net is owned by the Tennessee Ornithological Society Neither the society(TOS) nor its moderator(s) endorse the views or opinions expressed by the members of this discussion group.
