Yesterday afternoon, I heard something hit one of the front windows of my house, a sound that told me that it was something bigger than a 'bug', but not the loud 'bang' of a bigger bird. I got up to investigate and found a male Ruby-throated Hummingbird lying on its back on the front porch. I stepped outside, gently picked up the tiny creature and turned it right side up and just cradled it in my hand. It was still breathing, its body somewhat 'pulsing'. Its eyes were open but had a glazed look to them. After a few minutes it straighted its wings and picked its head up and started looking around. There was hope!! Then it began flicking its tougue in and out of its tiny beak and sat more upright in my hand. About five minutes after its crash it flew away into the woods. It was an awesome experience!
