NOTE: The duck is being seen on private property. The land owner has graciously agreed to allow us to park/view the duck from his property - please follow the guideline listed below when attempting to view the duck. Mike Murdock, TWRA Robertson County Wildlife Officer, first noticed the Whistling-Duck at the end of April. It disappeared, but was seen again beginning last week. Today, Mike guided a group of TWRA biologists, who were in Cheatham County taking a birding refresher course led by Dr. Fred Alsop and Scott Somershoe to the pond near Adams, TN, where the bird was located in the company of a Northern Shoveler. The Shoveler flew off in the company of 4 other Shovelers, while the Whistling-Duck flew to a group of Canada Geese. The farm pond is located approxiamately 8 miles north of I-24 on State Route 256 (Exit 19). I am returning to the pond tomorrow morning after the Radnor Wednesday walk, and will post exact mileage from I-24. 9/10 of a mile from the second stop sign encountered on State Route 256, there is a large red barn on the right side of the road. Park here - and do not cross the fence between the parking area and the pond. The duck was on the north side of the pond, but has been seen mainly in the small inlet nearest the road. If anyone would like to join me tomorrow morning, we should be leaving Radnor Lake around 10:30 am. My cell phone number is 615-566-4380.
