Spring has hit my yard! Here's my list for the past 24 hours: Barn owl Wild turkeys CATBIRD! Chuck-will-widow Rubythroated hummingbirds (male and female) Red-eyed vireo Yellow-throated vireo Yellow-billed cuckoo Summer tanagers (male and female) Yellow-breasted chat Palm warbler Magnolia warbler E. Towhees plus my usual Northern cardinals (as opposed to what other cardinal directions?), Mourning doves, Am crows, Blue jays, Tufted titmice, Pileated and Red-bellied woodpeckers, Bluebirds, E. meadowlarks, Phoebes, and Carolina wrens. Last evening as I was driving home, I saw two male Rose-breasted grosbeaks fly across the road ahead of me; none in my yard this morning, tho. When I reached my driveway and stepped out of the car, the air was unexpectedly redolent of AUTUMN -- rain-soaked, freeze-killed oak leaves. It took a second for my cortex to catch up to my olfactory lobe... Where are my Great-crested flycatchers? Happy migration, everybody.
