Thanks to everyone who attended the Jay Walk at Forks of the River WMA in
Knoxville this morning. While we didn't see the target Rusty Blackbirds, we did
happen upon 46 other species. Highlights include a very active and colorful
gathering near the old silo, one made up of Northern Cardinals; Eastern
Bluebirds; Eastern Meadowlarks; Yellow-rumped Warblers; a Palm Warbler; Field,
Song, Fox, and White-throated Sparrows; Eastern Phoebes; Northern Flickers; and
much more. Later we got a pair of American Kestrels side-by-side in the
spotting scope, which allowed us to observe how the female is larger than the
male, a standard for raptors.
