119 species were tallied on the Reelfoot Lake Christmas Bird Count today by 19
birders in 6 parties! Not bad for an off and on rainy day count! Best birds
were Great Egret, American Bittern, Harlan’s Red-tailed Hawk, 2 Rough-legged
Hawks (1 light morph, 1 dark morph), Short-eared Owl, Virginia Rail, 2 Sedge
Wrens, Orange-crowned Warbler, Common Yellowthroat, Tennessee Warbler,
LeConte’s Sparrow, 3 Lincoln’s Sparrows, Western Meadowlark, Brewer’s
Blackbird, and Purple Finch. Michael Todd also had an adult Little Gull on
Friday for a count week species that couldn’t be relocated today.
19 participants were: Chris Agee, Clay Bliznick, Jerry Drewry, Bob Foehring,
Graham Gerdeman, Mark Greene, Joe Hall, Gail King, Brainard Palmer-Ball, Rick
Shipkowski, Chris Sloan, Joshua Stevenson, Ruben Stoll, Victor Stoll, Joe
Stone, Mike Todd, Allan Trently, Alan Troyer, and Melinda Welton.
