Rob Lane and I birded Walnut Log, Long Point (KY) and the Handicap Hunting Area in Black Bayou this morning. Highlights include: Walnut Log Yellow-throated Vireo White-eyed Vireo Kentucky Warbler Northern Parula Prothonatary Warbler Yellow-throated Warbler Black-throated Green Warbler Louisiana Waterthrush Common Yellowthroat Long Point (KY - Reelfoot NWR) Blue-winged Teal Northern Shoveler Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Pectoral Sandpiper Solitary Sandpiper Black Bayou - Handicap Shooting Area Blue-winged Teal Northern Shoveler Gadwall Mallard Wood Duck Greater Yellowlegs Lesser Yellowlegs Pectoral Sandpiper Least Sandpiper Wilson's Snipe Great Egret Snowy Egret (8) Little Blue Heron (2) Sandhill Crane (1 - flying) Virginia Rail Common Yellowthroat The Egrets and Little Blue were all at the far end of the Handicapped Shooting Area. The Snowies and the Little Blues were roosting in trees. The Sandhill Crane was also seen there. The Virginia Rail was flushed (twice) while walking back to the end of the area. A Spotted Sandpiper was also seen along the highway just north of Walnut Log. Walnut Log (also known as the Grassy Island Auto Trail) is north of the Reelfoot NWR headquarters in Obion County.
