Bell's Bend Park Nashville-Davidson County, TN 22 September 2009 A quick trip out to Bell's Bend Park in western Nashville-Davidson County revealed a pair of Red-headed Woodpeckers. The first one I caught on the wing. I knew by the flight pattern that the bird was a woodpecker, but when I got my binoculars on the bird the large patch of white on the undersides and wings really got my attention. The red head was very obvious as well. The bird landed at the top of a leafless tree. It remained there, in plain view, for several minutes before another Red-headed Woodpecker flew by. The first took off and followed the second until they disappeared from view beyond a line of trees. I also observed a pair of American Kestrels flying, hovering and soaring near the Outdoor Center. My other bird of note was a Wilson's Warbler.
