We got to see our first Ring-necked Ducks this evening at Rankin Bottoms in Cocke County. The happy couple were diving in the Gate Pond at the end of the Old RR Bed Road, and were joined by about 20 mallards. Wood Ducks, spring peepers, pickerel and chorus frogs were sounding off in the background. Earlier, at the Trestle Pond at the end of the Coal Chute Road, we watched 2 Dunlins and 7 peeps. 45 Double-crested Cormorants flew over in two well-organized V-formations. James Brooks and Theresa then joined us and J. deduced that the peeps were Semi-palmated Sandpipers. Michael Sledjeski and Leslie GibbensGet more from the Web.
