TN-birders, Sharon Bostick, Frank Bills, Dollyann Myers, and I went back out to Rankin Bottoms in Cocke County again today to see if any of the recent weather had brought in any new birds. Here are some of the more interesting results: Canada Goose - 200+ Wood Duck - one male in eclipse plumage (I've rarely ever seen one in this plumage) + a female Double-crested Cormorant - 120+; about 80 of them were fishing in one huge group - cool behavior. Great Egret - 75+ White Ibis - 1 immature Osprey - up to 3 Stilt Sandpiper - 2 Buff-breasted Sandpiper - 1 Shorebirds in general - most of the usual suspects, but needed a scope to see most of them across the water near the old water tower structure; difficult to see with the heat waves low to the water. Herring Gull - 1; no sign of any Laughers. Pileated Woodpecker - 2 Yellow Warbler - 1 We also stopped at the north end of the 25E bridge where we had the 7 Avocets Friday. Nada. Very few birds around but it was a different time of the day. Great birding, Ron Hoff Clinton, TN
