Rankin Bottoms, Cocke Co., TN

The American White Pelican reported over the weekend at Rankin Bottoms
continues. It was first viewed this morning in the lake east of the coal
tipple, but by the time I left in late morning it had moved well up the
embayment almost into the willows.

AMERICAN WHITE PELICAN (1)
Spotted Sandpiper (1)
Greater Yellowlegs (2)
Lesser Yellowlegs (3)
Laughing Gull (1) - in the flock of Ring-billed Gulls
Ring-billed Gulls (29)
Caspian Tern (1) - in the flock of Ring-billed Gulls

As mentioned by Mike Sledjeski in his post yesterday, there is still little
shorebird habitat visible from shore.

I also walked down the road from the coal tipple to the end of the peninsula
and found a varied mix of migrant songbirds:

Yellow-billed Cuckoo (1)
Eastern Wood-Pewee (1)
YELLOW-BELLIED FLYCATCHER (1)
Empidonax sp. (3)
Eastern Phoebe (1)
Great Crested Flycatcher (1)
Eastern Kingbird (4)
Northern Waterthrush (3)
Magnolia Warbler (1)
Blackburnian Warbler (1)
