Oct. 22, 2009 Mud Island MS RV Ensley Bottoms President's Island Shelby Co. TN The MS RV is slowly relinquishing its hold of the sandbars, much slower than its fast rise but another rise is on its way. Places for birds to rest are few and far between. The only birds on the river were a single DC Cormorant and about 40 Rough-winged Swallows, no Tree or Chimney Swifts for the first time. At TVA Lake were 4 Pied-billed Grebes, 7 Coots, 3 Ring-billed Gulls but no Eared Grebes. The pair of immature Eared were later found just across the levee on McKellar Lake. The installation of rip-rap along TVA Lake must have made the youngsters move. At the "Pits", there are still a couple of thousand Least to scan through and a few rewards to be had; 2 Lesser Yellowlegs, 7 Stilt Sandpipers (around since Sunday), 2 Dunlin and 2 basic plumaged Western Sandpipers.
