Hi John,
That's always a good question, and without banding and recapturing
regularly there's no way to know. That said, you may have noticed a fair
amount of variation in the males, with birds hatched last year having
variable amounts of brown in the head, back, and especially wing. Some of
them might be individually identifiable from day to day.
Minor point - these are not technically "specimens" unless they are being
collected for a scientific study or collection.
Best birding,
Stefan

I have been enjoying seeing the rose-breasted grosbeaks this spring. I
understand they are temporarily here during their migration. My question
is, am I seeing the same RBGs day after day during the spring or are they
likely new specimens each day?
Thanks,
John
