Cane Creek Park, Cookeville, TNNovember 26, 2008Yesterday, (Wed.) while waiting
for my son to get out of class at Tenn. Tech, I ventured over to Cane Creek
Park on the West side of town. About 8:15 the sun was getting up and thawing
things out for a good day on the lake, and in the surrounding trees and shrubs.
The lake contained about 11 Ruddy Ducks, 14 Buffleheads, 3 Ring-necked, about
150 coots, 5 Pied-billed grebes. and mallards and canada goose that may have
been a mix of locals or travelers?? I also had pine siskin mixed in with the
goldfinches in the sycamore trees, and juncos, cedar waxwings, chipping
sparrows, robins, bluebirds, and 3 rusty blackbirds all feeding on different
types of berries in the trees and on the ground. I also had 5 species of
woodpeckers (NO hairy or Red-headed) and the rest of the woodland mix of
yellow-rumps, to white-throated sparrows. It was a good two hours. This seems
like a good place for future visits, and very accessible with the trails and
roads for easy walking.Ben BrittonMorristown, TN
